Our Story

On the 27th of November 2005, the Essendon Congregations of Buckley Park, Keilor Road and Mount Road merged to establish the North Essendon Congregation.
Buckley Park was established in 1928 and Keilor Road in 1924. These buildings were sold and money was made available to alter and upgrade the facilities at 132 Keilor Road.
Old buildings were demolished and a beautifully refurbished Worship space and state-of-the-art Conference Center have arisen from the rubble.
When the North Essendon Methodist Church was built in 1886, the area was remarkable for its gigantic trees, deep gullies and reed-fringed water holes. Mt Alexander Road was a rough track cut through dense forest. In the summer the surface was dust, while in winter it was thick mud churned up by bullock teams. It was also an area occupied at times by the Doutta Galla tribe.
The three Congregations have truly become one, and the people are working together on opportunities for mission and outreach to the wider Church and the community.
Members of the North Essendon Uniting Church community are involved in a homework club for disadvantaged children, assisting asylum seekers and wrestling with what it means to follow Christ in the 21st Century.
